Stormwater Infrastructure Mapping

Time: May 18, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. EST

Cost: Free

Location: In-Person at The Watershed Center in Pennington, NJ

Event Logistics: There will be complimentary coffee and tea. Please bring your own lunch. The following is a draft schedule for the training:

  • 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. (Presentation by NJDEP)
  • 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Discussion and Questions)
  • 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. (Lunch Break)
  • 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. ('Field-training' with phone apps outside)

Audience: This workshop is for community members, municipal staff, and local advocates.

Together, we can all contribute to the health of our waterways by understanding our stormwater systems, mapping them, and participating in the development of future Watershed Improvement Plans required by the MS4 permit.

Join The Watershed Institute and NJDEP for this informative and hands-on mapping workshop. The workshop will show how community members can help their municipalities with the MS4 mapping requirements by learning how to use tools provided by the NJDEP.

Staff from NJDEP will teach how to use Department provided tools to meet the mapping and inventory requirements of the 2023 Tier A MS4 permit. There will be discussion on how local watershed groups and interested community members can contribute to the work of their municipalities and counties to assist in meeting their mapping requirements.

NJDEP staff will also give guidance on steps that can be taken in a watershed after the mapping has been completed to help improve water quality such as inspecting outfalls for illicit discharges and stream scouring, ensuring the maintenance of stormwater management facilities, and developing the Watershed Improvement Plan (WIP).

Time will be provided after the classroom training session for attendees to try out the mapping tools in person on their own devices. NJDEP staff will be present to answer questions and provide assistance.
