Stream monitoring is critical to understand what is happening in our waterways. Currently, there are gaps in water monitoring data in NJ and environmental non-profits can help to provide a more comprehensive statewide water quality assessment. The Sourland Conservancy is working with the NJ Watershed Watch Network (hosted by The Watershed Institute) and NJ DEP to customize the Americorps NJ Watershed Ambassador program methods to fit the needs of a volunteer-based water monitoring program. Together, these groups have developed a training and quality assurance program to allow volunteers to collect data of a sufficient and known quality that can be submitted to the Water Quality Exchange national database and used by NJ DEP for regulatory waterbody assessments.

We will discuss the evolution of the Sourland STREAM program and how its methods can be tailored for use by different environmental non-profits, as well as how the resources of the NJ Watershed Watch Network can increase the volume of data being collected by volunteer-based water monitoring programs to help fill in data gaps in different regions across the state.

We will send you an email after you register with information about how to access the webinar.
