What's Lead Doing in My Drinking Water?
Time: September 20, 6 - 7:15 p.m. EST

Virtual on Zoom
Elevated exposure to lead can lead to irreversible health issues affecting the cardiovascular, kidney, and reproductive systems in adults and the neurological system in children, resulting in behavioral and learning problems. The presence of lead in New Jersey, whether in drinking water, paint, or soil, is one of many environmental justice issues that disproportionately affect low-income communities and communities of color.
Join The Watershed Institute, Lead-Free NJ, and NJ Future to discuss lead in our communities and what you can do to keep your water safe. Lead Free NJ is a new inclusive and equitable collaborative focused on addressing lead hazards and preventing childhood lead poisoning. Meet the experts we'll be hearing from:
Khari Muhammad is the Technical Assistance Specialist for Lead Free NJ's Green and Healthy Homes Initiative. Khari collaborates with 24 health departments, surrounding municipalities, and regional coalitions; provides a wealth of practical information to create more effective lead poisoning primary prevention programs; and accelerates capacity building efforts impacting high-risk areas burdened with lead exposure in communities with low screening rates.
Deandrah Cameron is the Policy Manager at New Jersey Future. Deandrah develops and advances state policies that affect health, water infrastructure, and redevelopment, with a primary focus on lead in drinking water.
Heather Sorge is the Program Manager at Lead-Free NJ and oversees its day-to-day operations. Heather's work is centered on facilitating a diverse statewide network that hopes to ultimately ensure the eradication of childhood lead poisoning in New Jersey within 10 years.
Cassie Bolinger is the Program Coordinator at Lead Free NJ and provides administrative, operations, and communications support to the Lead-Free NJ collaborative.
