Introduction to Lichens: Pixie Cups and British Soldiers

What do pixie cups, British soldiers, hammered shields, tree flutes, and star-tipped reindeer have in common? They’re all varieties of lichen! Join Assistant Director of Education Pat Heaney and Watershed Educator Vicky Allen to learn about these amazing symbiotic life forms with their wonderful, poetic names! Use magnifiers to get a closer look at their structure and function, study the variety of shapes and color, and try to identify some common species.

If you have a 10x magnifying glass or magnifying loupe, feel free to bring it. Dress for the weather.

Ages 12 and up. In-person program. Masks, social distancing, and adult attendance required. Discount available for members.
