He holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University, an M.S. in Zoology from the University of Washington, and a B.A. in Biology from Yale University.
Dr. Muriel Gardiner Buttinger was The Watershed Institute’s primary benefactor. A student studying medicine in Vienna at the beginning of World War II, Dr. Buttinger risked her life working to transport Jews out of the country – for which she was later awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor. After the war, she and her family moved to the historic Drake Farmstead in Hopewell.
A psychiatrist dedicated to children and an early and avid supporter of the Watershed’s work, Dr. Buttinger ultimately gifted her farm – more than 400 acres of land – to lay the foundation for the Watershed Reserve and Honey Brook Organic Farm.
