NJ Green Infrastructure & Stormwater Utilities Symposium
Co-hosted by The Watershed Institute and the NJ American Water Resources Association, this free event will bring together experts in the field to share their knowledge and experience working with green infrastructure, stormwater regulations and stormwater utilities. The symposium will consist of two parts: a morning session, which will cover topics including draft revisions to the NJ Stormwater Rule, the NJ Stormwater BMP Manual, the NJ Future Green Infrastructure Municipal Toolkit, and impacts of urban flooding; and an afternoon session dedicated to the nuts and bolts of creating a stormwater utility, from communications and collaboration opportunities to rate setting and technical considerations.
On December 3, 2018, NJDEP published proposed amendments, repeals, and new rules to the Stormwater Management rules, N.J.A.C. 7:8. The proposal included requirements that green infrastructure be utilized to meet the groundwater recharge standards, stormwater runoff quantity standards, and stormwater runoff quality standards. NJ Future has published an online Green Infrastructure Municipal Toolkit to provide a one-stop online resource to help municipalities plan, implement, and sustain green infrastructure in their communities.
On March 15, 2019, New Jersey became the 42nd state in the country to allow for the creation of stormwater utilities. This means municipalities can evaluate whether a stormwater utility is the right fit for their community, and collect fees for the costs associated with managing polluted or excessive runoff from storms. But how would this process work, and how would it help your community?
Learn more about these important topics at our Stormwater Symposium on June 19, 2019.
The event is geared toward municipal officials who want to learn more about the NJ stormwater regulations, green infrastructure, and how to implement stormwater utilities. Nonprofits and professionals who work closely with local municipalities are also welcome to attend.
Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the event will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided.
